My Art Journey

Creativity is always present.  I have been creative my whole life and that creativity ebbs and flows.  I didn't start out painting, I never had the courage to be honest.  I'm a very shy human and it takes a lot to find my courage.  I have spent my adult life in the creative industry, paper crafting, mixed media, educating and designing for major manufacturers.  During this time I learned about colours, mediums, paints, tools and stains.  I got to the top, looked around and discovered, I creatively wanted more.  I decided to be brave and pick up that paint brush.

What I am learning

I grew up on the BC Coast.  My art reflects my strong ties to the ocean and rainforests of British Columbia.  I've always been surround by Native Art and receiving Native Status has opened the door to exploring Coast Salish art and incorporating that into my art.  Painting water and towering trees is like coming home.  Now, I live in Calgary, AB and my backyard is the Canadian Rockies.  I spend a lot of time camping and exploring all that nature has to offer.  Since I had the courage to pick up that paint brush, I look at nature differently now.  I am more critical, how does the water ripple when the wind picks up or how the sun peeks through the branches and casts a shadow on the bark.  I guess I am looking at these vast landscapes with an artist eye.  I paint a glimpse of my world when I am in nature.

When you connect with my art and want it in your home because it moves you, that is my motivation.  When what I paint speaks to you, the way it speaks to me.
